Gatehouse School

Bethnal Green, London
Value: £5M
Architect: Child Graddon Lewis

This project was for the extension to the existing school buildings to provide a series of new facilities, including a new performance space, commercial grade catering facilities, additional classrooms and a lift along with associated internal and external alteration. There is a new raised terrace to the rear, staff and nursery facilities are relocated and DDA toilet facilities provided. For the large part of the of the contract period the school remained in occupation and high risk activities were organised outside school operating hours or over holiday shut downs.

The works included for providing an extensive structural steel frame set upon piled foundations within the existing school hall and the under pinning of existing foundations at the rear in order to provide two further storeys housing a new theatre and classrooms. The external elevations are clad in GRC concrete and glass and the buildings are fiited out to the highest of standards including state of the art electrical, HVAC and theatre services.
